Together Has Debuted on Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Romantic Bond.

We present a challenge for long-term couples who appreciate the horror genre: Settle in with your loved one and stream Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie recently had its streaming debut on the Hulu service. Outwardly, it could look like typical body horror, but within Together lies a profound contemplation about the ways we decide to love one another.

An Introductory Film Delving into Partnership Complexities

Together is the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Millie and Tim, partners that have stayed together for over ten years. United in marriage in real life in 2017, the two stars bring a particular energy to their roles, masterfully depicting both the strengths and weaknesses of a committed partnership.

The narrative commences when Tim and Millie move from the big city to the countryside for professional reasons. A commonly used plot device, sure, but that’s primarily where the conventions conclude. Together evolves into as much a deep dive into the psyche of the partnership as it is a film about physical terror.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While trekking near their new home, a tempest descends, and the protagonists tumble into an subterranean cavern. After spending the night there and finally finding a way out, a mysterious influence begins influencing the pair. This force creates a paranormal intimacy between them that goes exceeding typical partnership.

The entire film is a slow burn of scares, interspersing elements of hallucinatory nightmares, gross (but not excessively graphic) body horror, and surprisingly comedic dialogue (sometimes during something disturbing). Michael Shanks orchestrates these parts seamlessly and wraps them up in a slowly mounting aura of dread.

Layered Performances

A large part of Together is exclusively the performances of its stars, and they deftly portray numerous complexities to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Her self-assurance and emotional bond is suffering due to a distance. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his hesitance to chase only his failing musical ambitions inexorably rises.

Conversely, Tim senses confinement and isolated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve relocated rural and removed from his support system. He is terrified of the notion of totally forfeiting his individual identity in another person. This fear is amplified by the reality he does not operate a vehicle and relies on Millie for transportation.

The director's cleverest decision in this movie never makes either of his characters the obvious villain.

The couple confront the kind of problems that are inherent in long-term unions after ten years. Fundamentally, they have affection for one another. They find humor with each other, provide solace, and are vulnerable at times. But below this facade, there’s an persistent current of uncertainty about their relationship.

Allegory and Meaning

While the otherworldly presence in Together symbolize these anxieties of unhealthy attachment and giving oneself over to another person, the allegory never feels overly obvious or heavy-handed. Instead, these visceral horror elements offer a ideal counterpart to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the frights and the fights work together in harmony.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s ending, which won’t be spoiled here, has sparked debate on the story's concluding statement about codependent relationships. Reports indicate that single viewers have understood the narrative as a powerful case for avoiding commitment. Conversely, certain partners experiencing tension found that the film ultimately assisted them resolve their issues.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own response could act as a telling indicator of how you think about commitment. Will the ending plant feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you identify in one of the characters and scream at your TV, or simply look at your significant other and state, “I understand that choice”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an test you can embark on today.

Together is available to watch on the streaming service Hulu now.
